Isla is a playwright, librettist and videogame writer; she has recently written her first TV pilot and is branching into writing audio drama. I have written 11 plays and the book and lyrics for two musicals, seven of which (six plays and one of the musicals) have been produced in London, Edinburgh, across the UK (on tour) as well as a transfer to off-Broadway, NYC.
Her play GONZO was longlisted for The Bruntwood Prize and the Verity Bargate Award in 2017.
She is currently under commission to write two new plays for young people (with Carbon Theatre and ice&fire Theatre), as well as working on an independent videogame as narrative and dialogue writer. She also has a new musical in development.
As of August 2020 Isla is on attachment as a writer with Traverse Theatre.
Isla is one of the playwrights Hampstead Theatre have chosen to take part in their 2020 Invitational Writers’ Group, INSPIRE – which is a year-long attachment during which we will develop a full-length new play mentored by Roy Williams and Roxana Silbert which will be considered for production by Hampstead Theatre at the end of the process.
Early this year Isla took part in the Advances in Scriptwriting Group at RADA lead by Paul Sirett.
She also delivers playwriting workshops to schools, youth groups and youth theatre programmes across the UK, in person and virtually.
Alongside writing, Isla has delivered talks and workshops across the UK to students and parents on PSHE/RSE topics for the past 5 years. For more information click here.
Isla studied an MA in Text and Performance (Playwriting pathway) at RADA in 2014 – 2015. She co-founded theatre company Shrapnel Theatre Ltd and served as artistic director until June 2016
